Narrativas de seducción, apropiación y muerte o el souvenir en la época de la reproductibilidad turística

Acto. Revista de Pensamiento Artístico Contemporáneo, 4, 2008, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. pp.35-49.

Here we will see how the souvenir, as a material correlate of the travel experience, becomes the privileged trope of that moment of permanent mobility and circulation of things and people imposed by late capitalism; and how these "touristic objects" can be conceived of today as a model for all merchandise in a world full of experiences that occur in spatially and temporally displaced non-sites. Hence the enormous significance of the souvenir for art today, when museums themselves can, indeed, be conceived of as an extension of the souvenir shop.
